Case Study Two

Sector:Property Maintenance
Role:Interim Management
Issue:Business Reported a loss of £ 1,000,000-00 in one month
location:UK
Completed:2007
Outcome:The business was stabilised and returned to trading profitably
Details:

The business was a Property Maintenance business wholly owned by its parent. Prior to the problem month the business had consistently returned figures suggesting that performance was close to budgeted profit.

Initial Findings were

  • That the records and reporting were inconsistent and that much of the loss predated the bad month and were not reported.
  • That there were potentially bullying and other behaviour issues with the current Managing Director who was then suspended and investigated as part of the process.
  • MD was preventing Accountant from correctly reporting numbers
  • MD was preventing Operational Managers making changes to improve performance
  • Customer had been alienated

The solution included

  • Formal removal of MD
  • Recruitment of Replacement MD
  • Enablement of Operational manager to introduce change
